1.8: Manage Traffic Rules and Regulations
This page shows the collection of processes that make up the Manage Traffic Rules and Regulations facility within the Manage Traffic function. These processes collect and store traffic rules provided by systems and personnel with qualified organizations to establish and maintain the traffic regulations for a region served by this function. These processes also include the functionality to coordinate traffic rules with similar functions in other jurisdictions or levels of government. Once the traffic rules have been established, they can then be disseminated to travelers. Traditionally, this has been done through the use of Traffic Control Devices (TCDs), e.g., signs showing the current speed limit. Today, however, traffic rules and regulations need to be disseminated to travelers using electronic devices to plan their trip to factor in slower speeds for work zones or school drop-off times as well as communicate directly to drivers and their automated driving systems (ADS) for things like a different speed limit that is applicable at night or under certain weather conditions. Discrepancies in the rules can be identified at any level of the overall process so there are functions included here to coordinate those discrepancy reports and manage their disposition.
There are 5 processes in this collection, two of which are themselves a collection of processes. The lower-level processes are defined as Process Specifications (PSpecs) and are assigned to Physical Objects in the ARC-IT physical view.
