7.6.2: Support Road Use Charging

This process shall be responsible for obtaining an image of a vehicle for use by other processes in the Provide Open Road Tolling function. The form of the image data obtained by this process shall be very accurate so that there can be no mistake of the determination of the identity of the vehicle and/or driver, and shall be easily passed on by the other processes to the appropriate law enforcement agency(ies) so that punitive action may be taken. The process shall be capable of obtaining an image of the required accuracy under all lighting conditions and over the range of speeds with which vehicles will pass. This process shall exchange information with a driver to notify them of the status of the exchange using lighted message signs or other means. This process shall also provide data back to the center based processes for further coordination of how vehicles are charged for use of the roadway facility.
